Caleb

Caleb

My middle boy, he was my baby for so long and for me at times it is hard to see him as anything else. I used to call him small fry before Titus was born. Yme and Rachel thought this should change to medium fry but I guess I have to acknowledge how much he has grown up too. I was the middle child so I guess I feel a certain affinity

It is amazing how different children are. Caleb is nowhere near as keen on letters, reading or drawing as Rachel but he will spend hours building stuff out of Lego and Zoobs. He loves books and usually goes to bed with at least one or 2 in his bed. He loves being read to, he just does not show the same desire as she did to learn the letters at this age. I like that homeschooling gives us the chance to go at his pace and let him discover things as we go along.

He is a sensitive boy and I was worried about how the baby would affect his life but he has coped really well. He was totally indifferent to this baby person in the beginning and would almost ignore him, now he asks to help and has even offered to hold the baby. He is happy to help and will fetch things for me.

Caleb loves Lego, building things, cars and transport things and cooking. He loves to help me make the evening meal. His favorite is to help me bake, especially on the off chance I will give him the bowl to lick.

  1. Gosh look how big and handsome he is! Love the last pic. I am also finding it interesting how different children can be. Parenting is such a learning process – not through how to teach them but rather how much i am learning from them.

Rafe only really took to the more academic interests and enjoys them this year. He had no interest or love of books when smaller. He never went through the why stage. He has never been into fantasy type games – took me long to realise his interests are more non-fiction focussed.

Kara is like Rachel was, already reading and wanting to do the more advanced things her brother is doing. Always asking questions and having opinions. Very into imagination and fantasy. She is very obviously bright as a button and makes sure everyone knows it.

(I am embarrassed to say I underestimated Rafe intellectually he just had a different pace and interests. His problem solving abilities, perseverance and memory astound me – I want some of what he has).
