I am a grown up

I was in the kitchen today making crumpets for the kids. Rachel had a little friend from swimming come around for a play date and I was being the good Mommy and making snacks for them. It suddenly hit me how I am all grown up and doing the Mommy thing. I know I have been doing it for almost 7 years but sometimes we don’t stop and think where we are in life, I am 34 and of course an adult but it still feels odd. My mind wondered to my own mom and how she always seemed to have it together. She always seemed like a adult, she was in control and had it all together. I guess it is just because I always knew her as an adult.

Life is funny because it was later today that I saw my mom had pinned a quote By Margaret Atwood on her Pinterest board and it said “I believe that everyone else my age is an adult, whereas I am merely in disguise” So maybe she feels like me at time, not quite sure how you landed up being 34 or almost 60.

Do you feel your age?

Caleb

Caleb

My middle boy, he was my baby for so long and for me at times it is hard to see him as anything else. I used to call him small fry before Titus was born. Yme and Rachel thought this should change to medium fry but I guess I have to acknowledge how much he has grown up too. I was the middle child so I guess I feel a certain affinity

It is amazing how different children are. Caleb is nowhere near as keen on letters, reading or drawing as Rachel but he will spend hours building stuff out of Lego and Zoobs. He loves books and usually goes to bed with at least one or 2 in his bed. He loves being read to, he just does not show the same desire as she did to learn the letters at this age. I like that homeschooling gives us the chance to go at his pace and let him discover things as we go along.

He is a sensitive boy and I was worried about how the baby would affect his life but he has coped really well. He was totally indifferent to this baby person in the beginning and would almost ignore him, now he asks to help and has even offered to hold the baby. He is happy to help and will fetch things for me.

Caleb loves Lego, building things, cars and transport things and cooking. He loves to help me make the evening meal. His favorite is to help me bake, especially on the off chance I will give him the bowl to lick.
