Okay so after establishing that I can not get a tattoo in pregnancy. I am resigned to wait until after the birth. It seems that while worried of hepatitis and stuff are unfounded now as a reputable places only use sterilized equipment and new needles, they worry seems to be about the ink and the stress hormones that might affect the baby. That I can understand, not that I find tattooing very stressful but still better safe than sorry.
Breast feeding seems to be another issue, Le Leche League seeme to think that the ink particles were too big to pass into breast milk so from that point of view it was fine. There was some question about infection, although systemic infection from tattoo’s is rare now a days. The only issue that might arise is the again the stress hormones might affect the milk and the way it tastes. I think i might wait until pinkgeekbaby is 6 months and on solids and then pump before I go and use that milk afterwards and then pump and dump the few feeds after just to be sure. My children breast feed for 2 years and I can not wait that long!
a Celtic symbol that represents life’s main triads in eternal movement and balance, like birth, life and death, body, mind and soul or sky, sea and earth.
According to Uriel’s Machine by Knight and Lomas (2003) the triple spiral may represent the nine month period of human pregnancy, since the sun takes a fourth of a year to go from the celestial equator (an equinox) to extreme north or south declination (a solstice), and vice versa. During each three-month period, the sun’s path appears to form a closely-wound quasi-helical shape, which can be likened to a spiral, so that three spirals could represent nine months, providing an explanation for a link between fertility and the triple-spiral symbol.
I want to put each of the kids names in one of the spirals, no idea where I am going to put it though – ideas?

Yar it’s best to wait until after. even though we don’t find tattoos to much of a bother our body still produces a bunch of hormones and stuff when we get one.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the symbolism of the triskele (which is why I have one lol) mine isn’t that spirally though. I wouldn’t put the kids names with it/on it. do a whole OTHER tattoo that has your kids names and birth dates
Have you decided on a location for it? Back of the neck would be a nice place …
That design is awesome. I’m not sure where you will put the kids names and think that you should maybe do a separate one for that purpose.
I was under the impression that breastfeeding is impossible if one has had BA surgery. Are you definitely sure that breastfeeding will be possible for you?
i disagree with the other 2 ladies (sorry)
i think names in the spirals could look awesome!!
breaks the monotony for me…
because i couldnt stop thinking about it, i did a rough sketch – what do you think??
http://twitpic.com/2me3dj
i actually like it better with names in
IMHO
Ok, first things first – I hate tattoos
But then you already know this.
Second, those spirals make my eyes go all funny & I can’t focus
Third I love Tanya’s idea of incorporating the kids names in the spirals
And that is my 2c worth
Oooo Tanya me likey!! That is a very nice way of doing it!
Tanya’s design is AWESOME!
Lovely!!
I would make their names the inner part of each spiral
I think waiting till 6 months after birth is a good plan.
I have always been a fan of Celtic symbols.
As to where to put it:
If you mean the names (which I guess you do): how about leaving a part of the spiral out and then replacing it with the name curving in the same way to complete the line?
If you mean the tattoo: Somewhere on your body you can show the kids without blushing
That is gorgeous, and so symbolic of everything! I would leave the names out.
Tanya now I am home and can see on the PC and not my phone I love it like that!
Julia you can’t breast feed or would struggle if you had the implants via the nipple. I specially have a scar under my boobs so that it does not interver with the ducts at all. Dr said if I have before I should be able to again. A friend with implants is still feeding her one year old so I am hoping it will work for me too. I would be devastated if I could not.
Thanks everyone now I just have to be patient and wait – something i am not good at
I like it. I like how the sircles flow into one another and creating a cool illusion. Will look good on skin.
I love it.
Maybe gets the kids names to start at the centre of each spiral and turn into the spiral line as the name ends… will make a drawing and upload later to show you waht i mean… Cause I probably dont make sense
Ach, just saw Tanyas pic, thats pretty much what I meant, but I would start the name at the centre like Barb says, maybe make the text more curvy and flowy and let the last letter flow into the line of the spiral…
Oh Tanya is clever! As I read it i was thinking just their initials in the middle of the spiral
But Sally, if you add the children’s names then what happens when you have another baby…??
Lucy seeing as this one was a bit of a surprise and is taking some getting used to. I am going to try and make very sure that it ends at 3 and not more. I know Yme would love to sneak a 4th in but I really do not enjoy pregnancy and am so sick and miserable that I am not sure he could would survive another
I love the design, I am going to get one as soon as I have reached my goal weight 8kg to go.
Wow! looks like the ink-itch has really hit the twitter mommies!
I LOVE the design and the idea of putting the kids names into the spirals
What are you planning to get Fairy Girl?
Its very pretty. Perhaps replace the last section of the spirals with the letters of the kidlets names?
I am not in the military, but I can’t imagine they wouldn’t let you in, I see a Lot of people with cross tattoo’s so it’s fairly common. Religious discrimination is probably if it’s a swastika or Jews or some thing.
I’d go with the names that Tanya sketch includes, just a different font!
