Stephen Hawking has been recently in the news for saying (if I have this right) that the universe could have come into being without the assistance of God. Given his own deplorable condition, I can’t help wondering if he feels he could similarly get by without the assistance of God himself…

44 off the first and 55 off the second. Glad to see you have read The Red Tent as I remember reccomending that for you last Christmas. And I have read quite a few Dickens but not Great Expectations so does that count? I must look for a list of authors one should read rather than specific titles.

Four Letters of Love was powereful- I lived in the village for a while in my head. Poisonwood bible is a close second favourite for me. Totally creeped your blog last night, and you are way too modest about your writing abilities/self-expression. It’s a 3D blog.

Have read most of them. I workedin/ran a bookshop for 12 tears, so loving reading was important.
I think you’d like two books. To Kill a Mockingbird is my favourite book ever. Stunning story. And the other is Skallagrigg, by William Horwood. Both magical in a normal way.

Hah! Exactly 28 off both, with a very small overlap. Odd that. Not many of the books I read would be on something like these lists, fair number of populist fantasy book though – guess I can’t be surprised after HP’s success.

Surprised that something like Dune is doubly represented as sci-fi when something like Larry Niven’s The Mote In God’s Eye is out there.
